Guide | How to Flash TWRP Recovery and Root Motorola Moto G4 Play.

Install TWRP & Root Moto G4 Play. This guide will show you how to flash or install TWRP recovery on Motorola Moto G4 Play phone. By installing TWRP on this device user will able to flash any custom ROM, custom kernel, or zip file contain root script. There are two of popular recovery at Android phones, one of this recovery is TWRP, this recovery has a large menu to make the user easily operate it. Other than that TWRP also make easy the user to make a full Android backup or Nandroid, and restore it when their Moto G4 play having any problem without lose anything.

Before this guide started, I would share Moto G4 Play specs. This device released on 2016, August. Comes with 5.0 inche IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors. Powered by Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A53, Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 chipset, Adreno 306 GPU. Supported by 2 GB of RAM, featured by 8 MP of primary camera, and 5 MP of secondary camera. Motorola Moto G4 Play. run on Android OS, v6.0.1 (Marshmallow), planned upgrade to v7.0 (Nougat)

Prerequisite.

1. Unlock bootloader on this device is needed. You can try by read the following tutorial below.

2. Minimal ADB and fastboot installed on your computer, Fastboot available download from link below.

3. In order to make a good connections between Motorola  Moto G4 Play and the computer, USB driver should be installed on the computer.

4. Download the latest TWRP recovery for Motorola  Moto G4 Play (twrp-harpia-3.0.2-r4.img) from here.

5. To root Motorola Moto G4 Play, you need download these files.

Flashing Moto G4 Play Guide.

1. Turn off your Motorola Moto G4 Play.
2. Once it completely turn off, now boot your Moto G4 Play device into fastboot. How to do it ?
• Press and hold Power button + Volume Down button + Volume UP button at the same time.
• Release all button if your device enter fastboot.
3. Make sure you see your Moto G4 play status is unlocked.
4. Now back to the computer.
• Go to the ADB and fastboot folder.
• Then put TWRP recovery zip (twrp-harpia-3.0.2-r4.img) file into ADB and fastboot folder.
• Rename twrp-harpia-3.0.2-r4.img to twrp.img
5. Open command prompt inside ADB and fastboot folder. How to do it ?
• Hold Shift key + Right click any where at white blank space.
• Then click open command window here
6. Now, connect your Motorola Moto G4 Play to the computer using USB cable. while pressing volume down button.
7. Back to command prompt, then type the following command.

mfastboot flash recovery twrp.img 

8. Once it completed, type the following command to boot Moto G4 Play into TWRP.

fastboot boot twrp.img 

9. If you can see TWRP main menu, you have successfully flash TWRP into Motorola Moto G4 Play.

Root Moto G4 Play.

1. Copy SuperSu Zip and Fix SuperSU to the SD card root directory.
2. Then, switch off Moto G4 play
3. Turn it on to fastboot mode.
• Press and hold Power button + Volume Down button + Volume UP button at the same time.
• Release all button if your device enter fastboot.
4. Enter Recovery Mode. How to do it ?
• From fastboot : use volume Up or Volume down to select Recovey Mode
• Once it selected, press Power button.
5. You will get warning that your bootloader is unlocked. On the next screen just swap to continue.
6. From the TWRP main select Install.
7. Navigate to your SuperSUFixer.zip file.

   

   supersu.zip

8. Then swap to the right to confirm flash.
9. Wait the process, and than back to step 6 above.
10. Navigate to SuperSU-V2.78-20160905010000.zip
11. Then swap to the right to confirm flash.
12. Wait the process, 
13. Once it finished, now reboot your Motorola Moto G4 Play to the system.
14. Finish.
